A six-member rock band won the Taste of Talent contest and with it, a spot to perform at the Stanislaus County Fair.
Divided We Fall, a group from Stockton and Modesto, beat out 13 competitors in a contest at The Bee’s Web site, www.modbee.com. Votes were taken from June 14 through Friday.
Lead guitarist Derek Gardner said the band was thrilled with the win.
“We’re good friends with The Kinzie Affair (another band that competed),” he said. “We were worried at first — they have more experience than we do, and they’re amazing in what they do.”
Divided We Fall has been around with its current members for about a year, playing gigs in the valley, the Bay Area and southern California.
Gardner, 19, said band members — they range in age from 16 to 25 — “really, really pushed it. We got tons of support.”
That support is evident in comments posted to the contest Web site: “Great stuff ... really awesome!," “This owns,” “You guys rock! Esp. that keyboardist!!! HE IS HOT!”
Gardner described the band’s general style as hard rock, but said, “We have different genres of rock also that we play.”
Divided We Fall will take the center stage at 6 p.m. July 22.
