Attendance at the California State Fair rose 10 percent over last year to more than 741,000.
Fair officials, believing they lost attendance to school starting over Labor Day weekend, moved up the fair dates this year.
Several county fairs, including Merced and Stanislaus, followed suit to accommodate vendors.
Stanislaus opened its fair a week earlier than usual, and Merced moved its fair into June.
Attendance numbers for the Stanislaus County Fair won't be available until Thursday, spokeswoman Adrenna Alkhas said Tuesday.
