The mayors of Turlock, Hughson, Newman and Waterford all will continue in office because no one filed to run against them in the Nov. 2 election.
In Waterford, the election probably will be canceled because two incumbent councilmen had no challengers.
Elsewhere, many of the contests are not firm. Friday was the deadline for filing, but in cases where the incumbent is not running, the filing deadline is extended through 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The liveliest place is Patterson, where there are two sure candidates for mayor and two others have expressed an interest, and where there are at least four candidates for two council seats.
Never miss a local story.
In Riverbank, two longtime council members, Dave White and Sandra Benitez, did not file for re-election, assuring there will be two new faces on the contentious five-member body. As of Friday, there were four confirmed candidates for the two openings and six others interested.
The Yosemite Community College District board of trustees will have two new faces. In late July, Pat Dean, who represents Tuolumne and Calaveras counties, announced she would not run again. Desirree Abshire, who represents eastern Stanislaus County, announced Friday afternoon that she would not run. YCCD Trustee Anne DeMartini is unopposed for Area 4, representing the West Side of Stanislaus County.
