NEWMAN -- Police on Saturday evening were looking for an armed man who robbed a Valadez Jewelry store employee in front of the Fresno Street business in broad daylight.
No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
The armed robbery occurred about 10:40 a.m. just outside the business on the 900 block of Fresno Street, just west of N Street in Newman near the center of town.
Surveillance video showed the robber lying in wait behind a parked vehicle before approaching the woman as she was entering the business, according to Newman Police Chief Randy Richardson.

He said the victim was knocked to the ground during a struggle with the robber.
The robber left with an undisclosed amount of money through a nearby alley and got into a green minivan, possibly driven away by a second person.
Police described the robber as a Latino, standing about 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 190 to 210 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans, a gray zip-up hooded sweat shirt and a black baseball cap.
