In an era of municipal downsizing, Patterson leaders tonight will consider a reversal of sorts to keep up with construction of a large distribution center.
City leaders last year laid off a senior building inspector and reduced its building official to part-time status.
But W.W. Grainger Inc. will need about 640 more hours of inspections at its warehouse project on 46 acres in Patterson's KeyStone West Business Park.
Paying an outside contractor would cost more than $57,000, but boosting the city inspector to full time would add about $28,300 to the payroll, a report says.
Also today, City Council members are expected to hire George Reed Inc. for downtown improvements at a cost of $482,800.
Tonight's meeting is scheduled to start at 7 in the council chamber, 1 Plaza, Patterson.
