Stanislaus County coroner officials on Wednesday were looking for the families of two men who died separately last month. Both men died of natural causes. Steven Duffy Stender, 54, died July 24 at Beard Brook Park in Modesto. Coroner officials said Stender was a transient who frequented the park and was possibly from Oregon originally. Stender stood about 6 feet tall and weighed about 180 pounds. He had long gray-and-brown hair with a mustache and a gray beard. On July 31, Pedro Gomez, 79, died at Riverbank Nursing Center. He had gray hair. Coroner officials said Gomez most recently lived in Tuolumne County, and formerly lived in San Jose and Texas. Family members are asked to call the Stanislaus County coroner's office at 567-4500.
