A two-week countywide campaign to curb drunken driving begins Saturday night with saturation patrols in Modesto and Turlock, police said.
The "Avoid the 12" campaign includes all 12 law enforcement agencies in Stanislaus County. The roving saturation patrols consist of law officers assigned to look for people driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to a Turlock police news release.
This weekend's patrols will be followed by more saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints in the next two weekends throughout the county as part the campaign's Labor Day effort to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by alcohol-related crashes.
The campaign is funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety.
