RIVERBANK — An 84-year-old woman was seriously injured Tuesday morning when a vehicle struck her as she walked through a crosswalk at Patterson and Oakdale roads, the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department reported.
The woman was taken by ambulance to a Modesto hospital, where she was listed in critical condition Tuesday afternoon, said deputy Andrew Winter, a sheriff's spokesman.
Sheriff's officials did not release her name or city of residence.
The woman was hit about 7 a.m. at the busy intersection.

Witnesses told authorities the woman was struck while walking through the crosswalk. Winter said Salvador Padilla, 25, of Modesto was the vehicle's driver, and he was not injured.
Sheriff's officials did not release any further details about the crash.
Because of the severity of the woman's injuries, the Modesto police Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
That's standard procedure for serious accidents in Riverbank, Patterson, Waterford and Hughson.
Modesto police will investigate the crash to determine fault and whether criminal charges will be filed.
