A two-week countywide effort to curb drunken driving continues this weekend with a sobriety checkpoint and saturation patrols in Modesto, Oakdale and Riverbank.
The effort is part of the "Avoid the 12" campaign, which includes all 12 law enforcement agencies in Stanislaus County.
The sobriety checkpoint will be conducted tonight at an undisclosed location in Modesto, according to a police news release.
The roving saturation patrols will hit streets Saturday night in Modesto, Oakdale and Riverbank.
The patrols consist of law enforcement officials assigned to look for people driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
This weekend's effort will be followed by more saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints next weekend throughout the county as part the campaign's Labor Day effort to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by alcohol-related crashes.
The campaign is funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety.
