A man seriously injured in a Tuesday evening crash that killed three members of his family remained hospitalized Thursday in Modesto, but his condition had improved.
James "Jimmy" Anderson, 24, was listed in serious condition, Doctors Medical Center officials said.
His aunt, Margaret Anderson, said her nephew is paralyzed from the chest down.
She said he is expected to eventually regain movement in his arms.

The rest of his family, his father, mother and teenage brother, died in the crash that occurred about 6:15 p.m. at East Las Palmas and Elm avenues less than a mile east of Patterson.
James Donald Anderson, 49, Emma Gabriela Anderson, 44, and Andrew David Anderson, 15, were pronounced dead at the scene.
A white van, driven by James Edward Rowell, 40, of Patterson, ran a stop sign on Elm Avenue and struck the family's sport utility vehicle, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Rowell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Relatives of the Andersons had not made funeral arrangements Thursday.
