Today's Modesto Bee newspaper is skinnier, marking a transition to a slightly narrower page width.
The change mirrors the industry standard adopted by most U.S. newspapers.
In technical terms, we're going from a 46-inch paper web (the width of four pages laid side-by-side) to a 44-inch web. The difference is a half-inch of space per page.
What does it mean for you, our valued customers?
Never miss a local story.
- An improved comics and games package, which now features two full color pages each day. All the comics are in one spot, along with the same lineup of puzzles and games. Based in part on your feedback, we've slightly revamped our comics lineup. And we've also relocated the bridge column and horoscope out of Classified.
- A new home for comics, games and the television schedule on Friday. We've moved them out of our tabloid Scene section to enhance their readability.
- A new look for our Classified section, including a larger index to help readers find exactly what they're looking for.
- A few less lines of type per column on each page. Staff and wire stories will be slightly shorter, and some photos will be a bit smaller.
What hasn't changed is our commitment to strong local content, in print and on modbee.com.
