Column Extra: Unemployment appeals board executive explains rationale for laying off judges

This week’s State Worker column looks at a plan to eliminate 50 adjudicating law judge positions at the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board in a few months. The judges, who decide winners and losers when a claim is disputed, say the plan would stretch their ranks too thin and would plunge the state back into noncompliance with federal standards for turning around cases.
