RECIE HORNYAK: Get involved in politics

For too long, we have paid too little attention to what has been happening to our country, state, county and cities. We have relied on the mainstream media to keep us informed. Well, it's time for all of us to start getting involved at every level.

We have a state Legislature that continually ignores and violates the laws and rules that are supposed to be upheld. They even take an oath to do so.

However, when it comes to doing the business of the state, they play to their donors to pass special legislation without the opportunity of committee hearings and public input. The governor then signs the bill -- done deal.

Congress does pretty much the same thing. Our own congressman resigned his office, leaving us with no representation (has anyone even noticed his absence?) for four months to take a job with a lobbying firm. The president is issuing executive orders and fiats without the constitutional requirements of congressional action.

It's way past time to rely on voting for the recommendations of your union or the local newspaper without verification. Attend a candidate forum, check information on the Internet, as questions and get involved.
