Editor: With last year's unclassified military budget approaching $700 billion, it is time to consider this expense through the lens of true fiscal conservatism.
We are paying for the common defense of Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Western Europe and Israel. Why should we go broke providing for the defense of the world's wealthiest nations? Our military budget should be halved and focused on domestic security concerns.
With these savings we could abolish the payroll tax and thus encourage domestic employment.
