Duane Holmes: Yellow journalism

The Oct. 12 smear article about Kevin Blake was a blatant example of “yellow journalism.” Every voter and candidate in this city, whether or not you support Blake, should be outraged by this. A story about an incident from five years ago, thoroughly investigated by the county attorney, in which no charges were filed, is not news.
What is the justification for a front-page story? Why would a competent editor allow a story like this to ever be published? Where are the derogatory stories on the other six candidates? I’m sure they are out there. If you are going to go down this sleazy road, at least cover everyone.
