Regarding recent articles on the changes at Merced County landfills, I want to congratulate Brooks Stayer, the new director of the Merced County Regional Waste Management Authority and the board for following up on the consultant’s study that was commissioned by MCAG regarding making the landfill operations more efficient and attacking their operating deficit. The easy way out would have been to raise the rates and keep the inefficient practices, including having five supervisors driving the authority’s vehicles home every night and not using the scales to weigh the trash. Thank you for looking out for us, the ratepayers! I hope this is an example for other government operations.
