On Oct. 21, 2011, Shadow literally walked into our lives. He joined my dogs and I on our morning walk. A half-starved, pathetic excuse for a dog, he walked right into our hearts. Whatever happened to Shadow at the hands of some disgusting human, only they and God know. But it didn’t break his beautiful spirit; Shadow never met a human or animal he didn’t like.
That same day Shadow met some of his favorite people: Dr. Brunner, and staff at Merced Veterinary Clinic. He was diagnosed with a severe heart defect, probably the result of in-breeding. We went home ready to say goodbye in a short time, but hoping he would have enough time to gain weight and enjoy life for a little while. Shadow passed away Saturday, surrounded by some of his favorite people. Thank you, doctors Brunner and Lawson. Your professional, caring attention to Shadow and the rest of our family is truly appreciated. Thank you also to Franklin Pet Cemetery for your careful, compassionate handling of our beloved family member’s remains.
To those who dump unwanted and sick animals on the side of the road, shame on you!
Never miss a local story.
