Thank you to the Sun-Star for the very nice article (“Patients reap benefits of rehab,” April 22, Page A1) regarding Ray Mink and his 30-year history with Mercy Medical Center’s cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation department. Ray is an inspiration to us all. I would like to acknowledge two very important people referred to as the “two nurses” in the article. Jeanne Franco, RN, and Lillian Scheidt, RN, are the backbone of the department. With their many years of experience, they provide quality care with dignity, respect and compassion. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, we see 50 to 60 participants. These nurses check in with every patient and make sure he or she is doing well. If not, they become advocates for these participants and ensure the rest of the medical team is apprised of their status. It is nurses like these hat have helped Ray manage his heart disease for the last 30 years.
