Brad Howard: Waiting for justice in brother’s death

On June 22, 1986, a cold-blooded, evil person murdered my brother and closest friend.

Stan Howard was at home sleeping in his bed in Merced County when someone took a knife from his kitchen drawer and stabbed him in the throat. Twenty-eight years have passed and this cowardly and senseless murder is still unsolved.

There has been no justice for Stan and no closure for the many victims who loved him and knew him as a kind, hardworking, loving and generous man. Although I know Stan is in a better place, I still pray daily that someone will have the courage and conscience to come forward with information that will bring justice and ease the suffering of our broken hearts.

I can see no reason why anyone would choose to protect such a cowardly killer.

In closing, I would ask the Merced County Sheriff’s Department to continue to investigate this case and all other cold cases in Merced County. Also, I ask that all citizens support our law enforcement agencies as they do the difficult job of investigating heinous crimes such as this. Everyone deserves justice, however long it takes.

Brad Howard, Coarsegold
