In response to the Sun-Star article “Valley teen birth rates still high” (Page A1, June 17): I agree that it is troubling that Central Valley teen birth rates are on the rise. Middlestate Feminists, a Building Healthy Communities funded grantee, is hosting a free sex-ed event taking place on Aug. 9 from noon to 6 p.m. at Playhouse Merced. The event, “Respecticon,” is free for at-risk youths, ages 12 to 19, with the hope of educating our youths about the societal context and prevention steps regarding unplanned teen pregnancies.
