Mel Ladousier: Water needs of man vs. fish

There is a logical, natural solution to the water battle for fisheries. Simply put, there shall be no more water released for fisheries than the amount of water coming into the reservoirs at any given time of the year.

This is in response to “Fish need more water” (Letters, July 17) from the Merced River Conservation Committee’s Michael Martin. There is a logical, natural solution to the water battle for fisheries. Simply put, there shall be no more water released for fisheries than the amount of water coming into the reservoirs at any given time of the year.

Man built the reservoirs for man’s water needs as well as flood control, not for the purpose of enhancing fisheries, or Delta water quality. If nature does not provide the water, man’s needs should not be sacrificed for the sake of fisheries. Simplistic? Yes. Just? Yes.
