Ken Thompson: Water conservation? Lead by example

While driving by Merced High School on Olive Avenue at 2 p.m. Sunday, I noticed the lawn sprinklers were operating, with an abundance of runoff water flowing on the sidewalk and down the gutter. Come on! 2 p.m. – the hottest part of the day – and the sidewalk was flooded and valuable water heading down the drain. For the most part, citizens of this county are trying to do their parts to conserve water; shouldn’t local government do the same?
