Ken Thompson: Water conservation? Lead by example

While driving by Merced High School on Olive Avenue at 2 p.m. Sunday, I noticed the lawn sprinklers were operating, with an abundance of runoff water flowing on the sidewalk and down the gutter. Come on!

While driving by Merced High School on Olive Avenue at 2 p.m. Sunday, I noticed the lawn sprinklers were operating, with an abundance of runoff water flowing on the sidewalk and down the gutter. Come on! 2 p.m. – the hottest part of the day – and the sidewalk was flooded and valuable water heading down the drain. For the most part, citizens of this county are trying to do their parts to conserve water; shouldn’t local government do the same?
