Wayne Wallace: One council meeting a month enough in Atwater

I have attended most of the council meetings over the last four years. The meetings give citizens a chance to have input, which is good.

At a recent Atwater City Council meeting the council debated going to one council meeting a month. I have attended most of the council meetings over the last four years. The meetings give citizens a chance to have input, which is good. With leadership from the podium and control of unnecessary conversation from council, the meetings can move along. One thought was, “Is there really a need to hand out certificates at the first of every meeting?”

A few months ago, the council was trying to eliminate committees completely because there was no need for them. I also realized that in November and December they only have one meeting anyway with no major disasters, as explained by a few at the council meeting. Do they have one in February because of the short month? There were as many who spoke for the one meeting approach as against it. The staff has experience with one meeting per month!

This is not new; I feel it is a good idea. Contact a city councilperson, if you can reach them, or leave a message at City Hall.
