Merced College’s Gonzalez 11th at state in hammer

Ivander Gonzalez knew a school record in the hammer throw was unlikely. The Merced College sophomore ranks second all time and is almost 15 feet short of Shane Jackson’s 176-foot toss.

Ivander Gonzalez knew a school record in the hammer throw was unlikely. The Merced College sophomore ranks second all time and is almost 15 feet short of Shane Jackson’s 176-foot toss.

Still, Gonzalez was hoping for a personal best at the CCCAA State Track and Field Meet on Friday. He didn’t quite get there. Gonzalez finished 11th in the hammer throw with a toss of 154-11.

The Blue Devils will have two more throwers going today, including NorCal shot put champion Christina Lotulelei.
