A man who was shot Sunday afternoon in the 600 block of West Seventh Street is refusing to help officers identify his attacker.
When officers were dispatched to the area around 4:25 p.m., they found the 39-year-old victim bleeding from his right hand and abdomen, according to a news release from Lt. Bimley West of the Merced Police Department.
Officers were able to determine that an unidentified suspect fired a handgun at the victim and hit him with a bullet in the hand and abdomen, according to West.
The victim refused to give a suspect description or any details of what led to the shooting, according to West, who added that Riggs Ambulance Service and the Merced Fire Department responded to the scene and treated the victim, who was eventually taken to a local hospital.
Officers also questioned citizens who were in the area at the time of the shooting, but they refused to give information or identify the suspect, according to West.
The case will be forwarded to the investigations unit of the Merced Police Department to identify a suspect and find a motive for the shooting, according to West.
Police are asking witnesses to call Sgt. Scott Skinner at (209) 385-4702 or the tip-line at (209) 385-4725. Callers can remain anonymous.
