Chowchilla woman who escaped from Nebraska prison arrested

A 23-year-old Chowchilla woman who was on the run after escaping from a Nebraska prison is back behind bars after being captured Monday evening in north Madera.

Connie Torres, who also goes by the name Connie Marquez, was taken into custody by law enforcement shortly before 10 p.m. following a traffic stop near Sonora and Adell streets, according to Erica Stuart, spokesperson for the Madera County Sheriff’s Department.

Torres was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. She was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Madera county jail on felony drug charges. She will remain at the jail until she’s sent back to Nebraska.

According to Nebraska authorities, Torres, who was sentenced in July 2012, was serving a 2 to 4 year prison term for narcotics and child abuse when she escaped, Stuart said.

She escaped from a correctional facility in Lincoln, Neb. in late January, according to the Neligh News and Leader’s website.
