A driver was arrested Thursday after agents with the Merced County Sheriff's STAR Team allegedly found him with 27 pounds of processed marijuana inside his vehicle.

The incident was reported at 1:30 p.m. in the southeast Merced County area, according to Sgt. Kevin Blake.

The driver, Bulmaro Perez, 59, of Modesto, was pulled over in the vehicle with his wife as part of an ongoing investigation. During a subsequent search of the vehicle deputies found the marijuana, packaged in individual freezer bags.

Perez was taken into custody and booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of marijuana possession for sale. His wife wasn’t arrested, Blake said.

Blake said the team's investigation in the case continues.
