The Merced County coroner's office on Wednesday released the identifications of two people killed in two recent vehicle crashes.
A 40-year-old Dos Palos man who died Tuesday after being ejected from an all-terrain vehicle in the Los Banos area has been identified as Donald Hennegan Jr.
According to the CHP, Hennegan started work at 8:30 a.m. and headed out on the ATV, driving through the large private ranch off Canyon Road near Interstate 5.
At some point, the ATV hit a hole in the ground, causing Hennegan to be ejected and sustain fatal head injuries, according to CHP.
Hennegan was dead when he was found by a fellow employee about 11:30 a.m., so investigators don't know what time the accident occurred or when the man succumbed to his injuries.
He was not wearing a helmet, according to the CHP.
A 42-year-old man who died April 19 after being struck by a car on Highway 99 south of Highway 140 has been identified as Yong Youth Phothipanya, who is also known by as John Reyes.
Phothipanya has family in Lathrop.
CHP officers responded to the scene and found Phothipanya's body lying in the center divider of the highway. Officers said they had no information on the car that struck the victim and were still trying to determine why he was on foot in the area.
