Bicyclist shot on Fahrens Park bike path in Merced

A 22-year-old man is expected to survive after being shot Tuesday night on the Fahrens Park bike path near R Street and Buena Vista Drive.
No suspects have been arrested, according to Lt. Bimley West.
Officers responded at 9:15 p.m. after receiving a shots fired call. They searched the area and found the victim near San Rafael Court. The victim had a gunshot wound to his back and was taken to a Modesto hospital for treatment, police said,
The victim reported he was riding his bicycle on the path when an unidentified male approached him, demanding his bicycle. The victim rode away from the assailant, who then fired. The victim was struck in the back, but was able to ride his bike to San Rafael Court. Police searched the area for the shooter, but didn't find him.
No description of the shooter is available.
