Police arrested one man and are looking for another in relation to a robbery Thursday on Main Street.

Police responded to the 1200 block of Main Streets around 6:38 p.m. after a man said two men approached him, pointed a gun and demanded his cellphone and money.

Police said the two gunman left the area in a white Ford Expedition westbound on Main Street, and the victim followed in his own vehicle.

The victim trailed the gunman to Bear Creek and Creekside drives, police said, where the driver of the Explorer exited the vehicle and pointed a gun at the victim. Police said the victim then ceased following the Explorer.

Police said the victim later identified Ruben Chavez, 27, of Merced as one of the suspects. He was on the 1400 block of 16th Street.

Police did not recover a gun or any stolen property. The second suspect is described as a black man in his late 20s or early 30s.

Chavez was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery, and remains in Merced County Jail without bail.
