Fire is threatening structures in the Ponderosa Basin west of Fish Camp, and residents have been told to be on the alert. But no mandatory evacuations have been ordered, fire officials said this morning.
The Oliver Fire in Ponderosa Basin is at 200 acres and no containment was established today. It is one of 25 fires in the foothills, and fire crews are concentrating their efforts on three larger fires burning in Mariposa County. All three were sparked by lightning Saturday.
All three fires are in steep terrain, said Trudy Tucker, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Forest Service.
In two other fires, no structures are being threatened, U.S. Forest Service officials said.
The Silver Knob fire has consumed about 100 acres. It's about 10% contained. No structures are threatened.
The Westfall Fire, southwest of Fish Camp, is about 40 acres. It is about 40% contained with no structures threatened.
