The American Indian Veterans Association and the Service Women's Action Network said they're hosting a one-day "stand down" for veterans and their families at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22.
The event will be held at the National Guard Armory, 1240 W. 8th St., Merced. Lunch will also be provided for veterans and their families.
The two groups said services and help in applying for benefits, health care and education will be offered. On-site health exams, haircuts and gear for homeless veterans also will be provided.
Interpreters for Spanish- and Hmong-speaking families will be available for any questions about how best to support veterans and returning military personnel, as well as their families.
