The Merced County Clerk’s office issued a reminder that secured property taxes are paid in two equal installments due Nov. 1 and Feb. 1 of each year.
The first installment of secured property taxes was due Nov. 1 and will be assessed a 10 percent penalty, plus cost, if not paid by Dec. 10.
To avoid penalty, the first installment is due no later than Dec. 10.
A secured tax refers to a tax assessed against real property, for example, land or structures.
Taxpayers can visit the Tax Collector Web site for a copy of their tax bill at mercedtaxcollector.org or call (209)385-7592.
You can make your payment using one of the following options:Pay by mail :Mail your check and payment stub to 2222 M Street, Merced, CA 95340; postmark on or before Dec. 10 to avoid penalty;
Pay online @ mercedtaxcollector.org ; pay with a credit card (convenience fee applies) or e-check (no fee); payments can be made until midnight Dec. 10;
Pay by phone at 1 (800) 906-7658; pay with credit card (convenience fee applies) or e-check (no fee); payments can be made until midnight Dec. 10;Pay in person at the Tax Collector's office at 2222 M Street in Merced; make your payment by 5 p.m. (close of business) on or before Dec. 10. Office hours 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays.
If you pay your taxes online or by phone, a convenience fee is charged in addition to the property tax amount paid. The credit card convenience fee is 2.5 percent of paid taxes. There's no convenience fee for e-check.
