A standoff between an armed suspect and law enforcement is over in Livingston. The standoff, at an apartment complex near Walnut Avenue and Franci Street, ended at about 6:15 Thursday evening.
The standoff happened after a vehicle pursuit involving Merced police started near 23rd and K streets. Police were responding to a 2:30 p.m. call about a stolen vehicle, according to Cmdr. Floyd Higdon. As police were arriving at the scene, they saw the suspect driving away. Merced police pursued the suspect to Northbound Highway 99, where the California Highway Patrol took over pursuit.
Livingston Police Lt. Sharon Silva said the suspect crashed the car into a tree stump near the Livingston apartment complex. He then fled on foot into the complex. The Merced County Sheriff's SWAT team and Livingston police and officers with CHP surrounded the apartment complex and blocked off nearby streets. Silva said the suspect was inside an apartment armed with a handgun.
Nobody was injured in the standoff.
