The Merced School Employees Federal Credit Union near the intersection of Olive Avenue and R Street was robbed at approximately 2:30 p.m. by a white male adult who said he had a gun, according to Merced Police Sgt. Scott Skinner.
The suspect, who is about 6-foot-2, came into the bank wearing a dark baseball cap and a blue windbreaker. He approached the teller, handed her a note that said he had a gun, and demanded money. The suspect escaped with an unknown amount of cash and headed south.
There were roughly 30 people in the bank at the time of the robbery. No one was harmed, and police don't believe the man had a weapon.
Officers are searching the area, and the credit union is closed. Police investigators are interviewing witnesses and anyone in the area who could have seen the suspect.
