Merced County Transit said that because of the closure of G Street starting July 12, routes 2 and 4, which provide service in the city of Merced, will be affected by detours on both weekday and Saturday service.
Route 4 will be detoured via 21st, K and 26th Streets. Route 4 will no longer provide service to the Park and Alexander portions of route 4 so that enough time is allowed to run the route with the detour.
Route 2 will also be affected and will have to use 26th and K Streets.
Even with the detours, routes 2 and 4 will continue to serve most of the destinations served by the current routes, including Merced Transpo, Cal State EDD, Wal-Mart, Merced College, Amtrak, Merced Community Hospital, Mercy Medical Center, Merced Mall and Target, the agency said in a news release.
The detours are expected to be in effect for 18 months.
Merced County Transit operates fixed-route services Monday through Friday from 7a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It’s a joint powers authority composed of the cities of Atwater, Dos Palos, Gustine, Livingston, Los Banos, and Merced, as well as the county of Merced. The program is administered by the Merced County Department of Public Works Transportation Division.
