ATWATER Jessica Silva stopped short of Tebowing, but she wasnt afraid to ask for any help she could get.
Silva's prayers were answered as she scored 27 points as Buhach Colony gutted out a 54-51 overtime win over Merced on Tuesday night. Silva looked emotionally spent after her team somehow found a way to defeat a Merced team that came in winning eight of its last nine games."My heart was pounding," Silva said. "I'm sure everyone's heart was. I was praying while I was on the court if you can believe that. Merced competed with us. Tekerra (Borden) played well. (Dalonna) Jones is a great athlete. That was the most intense game I've ever been in."Tryouts for Merced girl's travel league basketball for grades seventh through 12th grades will be held this Saturday at the Merced High gym from 1-3 p.m.

Lee enjoyed an impressive first round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. The duo combined to shoot an 11-under 59 at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club on Thursday, good for fifth place. Morse and Lee are two shots off the co-leaders Padraig Harrington/J.P. McManus and Danny Lee/Steve Green. Morse and Lee will tee-off today at Pebble Beach at 10:05 a.m.

DeRuyter grew up in Long Beach, went to Air Force and has coached all around the country. But during his news conference at Save Mart Center, he pointed out that his grandfather was a dairy farmer.As he concluded his introductory statement, he paraphrased Sweeney's classic line: "We're Bulldog born, Bulldog bred. And I'm going to be a Bulldog till the day I'm dead."
