ATWATER — Jessica Silva stopped short of Tebowing, but she wasn’t afraid to ask for any help she could get.

Silva's prayers were answered as she scored 27 points as Buhach Colony gutted out a 54-51 overtime win over Merced on Tuesday night. Silva looked emotionally spent after her team somehow found a way to defeat a Merced team that came in winning eight of its last nine games.

"My heart was pounding," Silva said. "I'm sure everyone's heart was. I was praying while I was on the court if you can believe that. Merced competed with us. Tekerra (Borden) played well. (Dalonna) Jones is a great athlete. That was the most intense game I've ever been in."

Tryouts for Merced girl's travel league basketball for grades seventh through 12th grades will be held this Saturday at the Merced High gym from 1-3 p.m.

The Fireballs is a new baseball/softball league in Merced for kids ages 4-9.

Registration will be held every Saturday in February at Me-n-Eds Pizzeria from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. with a fee of $35. All games will be played on Saturdays at St. Lukes School.

Merced's Brian Morse and his playing partner Richard H. Lee enjoyed an impressive first round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. The duo combined to shoot an 11-under 59 at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club on Thursday, good for fifth place. Morse and Lee are two shots off the co-leaders Padraig Harrington/J.P. McManus and Danny Lee/Steve Green. Morse and Lee will tee-off today at Pebble Beach at 10:05 a.m.

ATWATER -- The Atwater/Merced Little League baseball and softball annual crab feed will occur on March 3 at the APC Hall in Atwater. All you can eat crab, pasta bar. and salad bar. WHITTIER -- The Blue Devils scored two runs with two outs in the ninth inning to stay alive. Designated hitter Derrick Velazquez tripled in a run and then came in to score the tying run on a throwing error. Velazquez (3 for 6) then singled in the game-winner in the top of the 13th as MC knocked off SoCal No. 3 Rio Hondo.
