Individual victories by Ryan Randall and Connor Greene helped the Merced College men’s swimming team open the Bay Valley Conference Championships with a solid showing on Thursday at Solano College.
Randall captured the 500-yard freestyle title and Greene went 1-2 with teammate Luke Baum in the 200 individual medley.
The Blue Devils also added a second-place showing in the 200 freestyle relay, putting them in good shape in their pursuit of a sixth straight BVC title.
The MC women’s title defense got a decent start as well with Kellie Ketchum taking second place in the 100 individual medley.
The quartet of Ketchum, Courtney Frampton, Emily Heindel and Anjele Kapeghian also took second place in the 200 free relay.
The action continues today and concludes on Saturday.
