With 54 bowlers making up 18 teams, the Merced/Atwater Women’s 500 Club had a full house Sunday at Bellevue Bowl.
A team from the Gold Country Association (Black Oak Lanes) with members Talf Wayne, Ethel Brager and Manny Brager took first place for $69 each with a handicap score of 2,003. Following in second place were Phyllis Wallbaum, Peggy Docherty and Ed Huddleston with a 1,990 total for $58 each. In third was the team of Nevora Nush, Sylvia Giordano and Mike Giordano with a 1,969 for $47 each. The final team to cash was Robert Koop, Verna Fellows and Joe Troncoso with a score of 1,945 for $41 each.
Leading the high scores in the men’s category was Mike Giordano with a 279/708. Sharon Gomes led the women with a 235/534.
Next for the club is the Scotch Doubles with mulligans on July 10.

Senior Friday – Bellevue Bowl was well represented in McHenry Bowl’s senior no-tap doubles Friday in Modesto. They had the following winning a few bucks: In the third game, Bob Heller rolled a 282, Jerry McMillian rolled a 307 and Keith Hunter shot a 329. On the women’s side, it was Janie Schropp placing in the first game with a 329 and in the second game with a 297 for an 864 series.
Up next for our seniors is Yosemite Lanes’ 9-pin no-tap June 24 at 1 p.m.

PBA50 tournament – Sacramento’s Noel Vazquez captured his first PBA50 Tour championship and ended Pete Weber’s record run of four consecutive titles in the Northern California Classic last week at Harvest Park Bowl in Brentwood. Vazquez shot a 255 to Weber’s 224 to earn a check for $8,000. Weber made $4,500.
Vazquez defeated former Atwater bowler Ty Dawson 213-195 in the semifinals. Dawson finished third for $2,700.
You might see Vazquez rolling in Yosemite Lanes’ monthly scratch 6-gamer. He’s a regular.
Pro-Am at Black Oak – Black Oak Lanes is hosting its 11th annual Battle at Black Oak Lanes from June 24-26. The pro-am is set for Friday at 6:30 p.m. Entry fee is $50 with a Battle T-shirt. They offer a ball package for $150, which includes entry, a Storm Pitch Blue urethane ball and a T-shirt.
This pro-am is a regular no-tap. Call the lanes at 209-928-9437. Sounds like a great bowling weekend.
Central Valley Senior results – A total of 74 men and women filled the house Saturday afternoon in the first appearance at Bellevue Bowl for the Central Valley Bowling Club singles event.
A mini roll-off had John Battisti with a 994 set, Gene Stamps with a 984 and Jay Faughn with a 983. Faughn rolled off with Stamps and edged him 219-209 as Stamps missed a 10-pin spare.
That set up the championship final between Faughn and Battisti, who came on in the last part of the match with a string and defeated Faughn 267-200. Battisti earned $190, Faughn $160 and Stamps $144. The club paid out $1,628 in prize money.
Our local bowlers shined a bit as Pete Devries and Mike Coe tied with a 933 for $91 each. We had two first-time tournament bowlers in John Krone with a 912 for $52 and John Nunes a 911 for $48. The club paid down to 19th place.
The club will be at Manteca Bowl on July 16 for a singles event at 1 p.m.
