Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Andre Hollins led all scorers with 21 points as the Minnesota Golden Gophers held off the Florida State Seminoles, 71-61, as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge at Williams Arena.
Andre Hollins was just 3-of-13 from the field but shot 12-of-16 from the free- throw line for Minnesota (7-2). Austin Hollins added 16 points and was a force on the defensive end of the court with three steals and two blocks.
For FSU (5-3), Okaro White and Ian Miller each scored 16 points, with White grabbing eight rebounds and Miller dishing out seven assists. Boris Bojanovsky chipped in 11 points on 5-of-5 from the field.
Minnesota shot just 34.5 percent from the floor in the first half, but it was 5-of-10 from 3-point range and went into the halftime locker room with a 33-27 lead.
After making less than 40 percent of its field goal tries in the opening stanza, FSU improved to 55 percent shooting in the second half, while the Gophers regressed to only 33.3 percent. Minnesota was able to hang on to the lead, however, by shooting 20-of-28 from the foul line. The Seminoles failed to take advantage at the stripe after intermission (11-of-18).
Minnesota scored 26 points off of 17 FSU turnovers. The Gophers committed only six miscues themselves.
