In almost a repeat of last season’s clash, the Atwater High School defense did a great job of keeping Franklin of Elk Grove in striking distance Friday night.
But the Falcon offense could never take advantage.
Led by a couple of touchdowns from junior quarterback Lamar Jackson, the Wildcats eventually pulled away for a 29-0 victory at Falcon Field.
Ryan Bell led the Atwater (0-1) defense with 13 tackles, and Sal Duran added an interception.
“Things just never clicked offensively,” Atwater coach Bob Valladao said.
“They were fast defensively and we get hit for a lot of drive-killing penalties. The defense was just out there the whole night and finally wore down.”
