The Merced Sun-Star's Newspaper in Education program supports literacy efforts throughout the Sun-Star's circulation area. Each dollar that is donated to the Vacation Donation program is matched by The Merced Sun-Star, and is used to provide newspapers to classrooms for math, science, history and current event instruction.
When you select the Vacation Donation option, the money that would typically be applied to the delivery of your paper will be donated to the NIE program.
All participating teachers are able to use the money to purchase copies of The Sun-Star (at special classroom rates) for use in their classrooms. The newspaper is a perfect way for students to make a connection with the outside world from the familarity of their classroom.
