Around Town: Light the lights

LE GRAND -- Roseann Serrano will play Christmas music Friday night when Le Grand residents gather at 5:30 p.m. for Christmas in the Park. Santa will arrive on the fire truck at 6:15 and the lighting of the school tree is at 6:30.

Coffee, hot chocolate, cookies and sweet rolls will be served in the Le Grand Elementary School cafeteria where children can visit with Santa from 6:30 to 7:30. Harmony Valley Chorus of Sweet Adelines will entertain from 7:30 to 8 in a program featuring a Christmas chorus of Le Grand Ladies.

Clothes distributed

Our Lady of Mercy School is hosting a used clothing drive at 9 a.m. Saturday at Reyes School parking lot, 123 S. N St., to give some relief to local families in need. Clothes, blankets, coats and towels will be given away on a first-come, first-serve basis.

People who want to donate clean and usable clothing of all sizes -- infant through adult -- coats, blankets, sheets, towels and shoes may drop them off at OLM School, 1400 E. 27th St., anytime during school hours today and Friday.


Start a business

SCORE, a resource partner of the Small Business Association, will hold low-cost workshops on how to start and run a successful business.

Workshops are conducted at noon and 2 p.m. on the second Tuesday and fourth Saturday of each month at 1880 Wardrobe Ave. The reservation fee is $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

There are also counseling sessions available at 2, 3 and 4 p.m. every Tuesday and Friday. Sessions can be scheduled by calling (209) 724-2033.


Assemble at temple

The Sikh Gurdwara Temple at B Street and Winton Parkway in Livingston will be the setting at 7 p.m. Monday for the Interfaith Thanksgiving. For directions, call the facilitator, the Rev. Bob Kuyper at (209) 628-0913.


Savor free dinner

The Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church is hosting a free Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 559 Broadway St. in Atwater.

Dinner may be eaten at the church or taken out and eaten at home. For those without transportation, dinner can be delivered in the Atwater area only. Everyone is welcome.
