Around Town: Texan pastor leads Merced revival

Pastor Joe Moreno of south Texas will lead the Miracle Revival tonight, Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 7 at The Door Christian Fellowship Church, 1240 W. 16th St.

Pastor Roland R. Perez said the revival is open to all. Nursery care is provided.

Gift drive revs up

The Merced County Human Services Agency is accepting new, unwrapped toys and gifts for disadvantaged children and teens through Dec. 16.

Gifts are being accepted at local area retailers including the Starbucks on Main Street in Merced and the Firestone dealership on Olive Avenue, next to Gottschalks. Gift barrels are located at these locations to accept donations throughout the holidays. In addition, donations can be dropped off at the HSA main office, 2115 W. Wardrobe Ave. Call (209) 385-3000, ext. 5285, to arrange for pickup of gifts or other items.

HSA Director Ana Pagan said there are more than 600 children in foster care and many others who will be without gifts this holiday season.

Journey with Magi

Christian Life Center will host the final two productions of "One True King" tonight and Tuesday night at 7 at the church, 650 E. Olive Ave.

The story of the Magi will be the focus of the production, with live animals and music setting the stage for the recreation of the birth of the Christ child.

The event is free and the community is welcome. For information, call the church at (209) 383-2273.

A visit from Santa

Santa will be visiting local children from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Merced County Fire Station 61, on the corner of Highway 140 and Gurr Road.

All children are welcome and the event is free.

Get smile from Santa

Enjoy classic airplanes decorated with holiday cheer at Castle Air Museum's Christmas Plane Lane, 5050 Santa Fe Drive. Santa will be there to smile for the camera from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday and Dec. 17-22.

Hot cocoa and tasty treats are found at the Flight of Fancy Cafe. Entrance fee is $3. The fee is waived for those who bring toiletries for the troops.

Art reviewed

Merced College Art Gallery is considering art exhibitions for the fall and spring semester 2009-10. The deadline for review is March 2.

Artists may submit a portfolio for the selection process to Susanne French, Merced College Art Gallery, 3600 M St., Merced, 95348, for review. Included should be 20 slides or digital format or photographs of the artist's work, a resume, artist statement and $10. Slides, CDs and photographs should be labeled as to the size and media of the work. A self-addressed, stamped return envelope is necessary if portfolio is to be returned.
