Around Town: St. Anthony's celebrates 50 years

On Sunday, celebrate 50 years of worship and attend the noon mass "50th Anniversary Blessing," at St. Anthony's Church in Atwater.

Father Tom Timmings will host refreshments in the rectory following the blessing, old newspapers and pictures will be displayed and remembrances shared.


Mini-grant funds

for children 0-5

First 5 Merced County announces its general mini-grant funding aimed at improving the well-being of children 0-5 and their families.

Grants are for one-time support events, activities or services and have a submission deadline of

Jan. 19.

Christmas Eve worship at Central Presbyterian

Central Presbyterian Church Sanctuary will celebrate the birth of Christ with a family service at 5 p.m. and a candlelight service at 7 p.m. Child care is provided for both services and all are welcome. The church is located at 520 W. 20th St., Merced.

Break out butter, bib for crab feed

Challenged FRC, a Merced nonprofit dedicated to parent support for children with special needs, is hosting an all-you-can-eat crab feed on Jan. 24. Crab and much more will be at Buhach Pentecost Hall, 2898 N. Buhach Road in Atwater. The feed features food, door prizes, raffle and a silent auction.

No-host cocktails begin at 6 p.m., dinner starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are available prior to the event for $35. Call (209) 385-5314 for tickets. No door sales.


Tax credit given

for car donations

The Santa Cruz Boys and Girls Club is coordinating a car donation program to raise money for youth clubs throughout California, including Merced. The donated cars will be sold at auction and the sale prize will be used by donors who itemize their taxes.

Senior citizen luncheon today at St. Jude

St. Jude Thaddeus Church hosts the Knights of Columbus No. 9363 Senior Citizen Christmas Luncheon today at noon.

Baked ham, mashed potatos and gravy, yams, vegetables, baked apples, dessert, coffee and punch will grace the tables in the small hall. 330 Francis St., Livingston.

It's free for seniors.
