The National Weather Service has issued a significant weather advisory for east central Merced County until 4:45 p.m. Monday.
Doppler radar started tracking a strong thunderstorm over Merced that was moving east at 20 mph, according to the NWS.
Pea-size hail and winds up to 30 mph can be expected.
Officials are cautioning that there is torrential rainfall, and it may lead to localized flooding. Lightning also can occur and may strike 10 miles away from the storm.
