About 363 utility customers in Merced were without power for about two hours Wednesday afternoon in an outage of undetermined origin.
Pacific Gas and Electric Co. spokeswomen Susan Simon and Nicole Tam said the affected customers were located on Bellevue Road between G Street and Fox Road. The outage was reported at 3:31 p.m. and was expected to be restored after 5 p.m.
About 1,200 Merced Irrigation District electric customers also were affected in a five-minute outage Wednesday in the Merced area, according to Jem Brown, assistant general manager of business and resource planning.
The outage took place about 2:25 p.m. at the Cooper Avenue substation. MID hit all-time energy peaks Wednesday afternoon, with about 92 megawatts of demand about 3 p.m.

An overload on the Turlock Irrigation District transmission line was responsible for the brief power outage in Merced, Brown said.
Thirty-seven customers in the Le Grand area were without power Wednesday afternoon when a car hit a power pole on Burchell Avenue, Tam said.
