Peterson comes through for Buhach Colony

ATWATER -- Hodari Peterson found himself in a familiar situation.

For the second time in three games, the Buhach Colony junior wound up with the ball late in the game and the shot clock running out.

Last week against San Ramon California, Peterson failed to get a shot off.

Tuesday night against Beyer, the BC guard sank a 3-pointer with single second left on the shot clock to give his team a four-point lead with 1:21 left in the game.

Peterson's shot forced Beyer to foul late, and BC's Levi Pollock sank four free throws in the final 46 seconds to seal a 64-56 victory at the Thunder Dome.

"I knew my team needed me to make the shot," Peterson said. "It felt good right when it left my hand."

Buhach Colony coach Steve Abrams was just happy to at least see a shot in the air.

"Either we yelled louder or he understands the concept," said Abrams, whose team improved to 3-4.

"That was the biggest possession of the game."

Abrams band of quick, athletic guards were able to overcome a 29-point performance from Beyer's 6-foot-6 center Brian Garbez.

Beyer's big man almost single-handedly kept his team in the game with 18 points in the first half.

"He was just better than we were," Abrams said. "We could have put five guys on him and he still would have scored.

"He's a good player. We obviously didn't stop him."

Instead, BC's guards out-ran Beyer.

Pollock paced Buhach Colony with 19 points. Braden Williams scored 18 points and added 10 assists.

"Levi and Braden shot the ball very well," Abrams said. "They played like seniors."

Still, BC found itself in a little hole. After sputtering in the third quarter, Beyer took a 47-43 lead into the fourth.

However, Williams, Peterson and Pollack combined to score 13 points during a 14-6 run that gave Buhach a 57-53 lead with 2:29 left.

"That was about our guys being hungry and playing with desire," Abrams said. "It had nothing to do with Xs and Os.

"It wasn't anything we drew up. Our guys just wanted it."
