Buhach finds hero at Thunder Dome

ATWATER -- Jordan Hoffman is making it tough for his coach to pull him off the floor.

The Buhach Colony senior came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points to propel his team to the championship game of the Save Mart Classic with a 55-52 win over South Lake Tahoe on Friday night at the Thunder Dome.

"He was the player of the game," Buhach coach Steve Abrams said.

"No. 11 was everywhere. He shot the ball well, he rebounded, he set screens -- Where wasn't he tonight?"

Buhach Colony (5-4) advanced to tonight's title game against Patterson at the Thunder Dome at 7 p.m.

BC needed every little spark Hoffman gave them to out-last South Lake Tahoe.

Abrams' boys started the game like they were going to blow Tahoe out of the gym.

Buhach scored the first 10 points of the game, but never stretched the lead over 11 points in the game.

The full-court press again fueled BC's offense as guards Braden Williamson, Levi Pollock and Hodari Peterson pestered Tahoe's ball handlers all night.

Williamson (12 points) and Pollock (10 points) also helped carry the scoring load.

Trailing 54-45 with 1:24 left in the game, Tahoe put together one final burst.

Four different players scored to cut the lead to 54-52 with 11 seconds left.

After Hoffman sank 1 of 2 free throws to extend the lead to 55-52, Tahoe's Vincent Capelino (17 points) heaved a half-court shot that missed wide to the right at the buzzer.

"Those last two minutes made for a long life," Abrams said. "Our guys wanted it. Tomorrow is going to be a lot of fun."
