Man found dead on city land

DOS PALOS -- Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy this morning to shed light on circumstances surrounding the death of Granson Clark, 49, of Dos Palos.

Clark, a former standout football player with Dos Palos High School, was found lying dead on city property next to the cemetery Tuesday morning.

Police Chief Barry Mann said Clark's body had no apparent signs of trauma.

"At this point we haven't been able to determine cause of death," he said. "We're considering it suspicious. Some evidence indicates he may not have died where he was found."

Clark had not been reported missing, Mann said, and officers were trying to retrace Clark's steps before his body was found. His body may have been dropped at the city property between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Mann said while police await the autopsy report from the Merced County Coroner's Office, they will be interviewing two people who were seen with Clark on Monday. Mann hopes they will be able to give details that will lead to police finding out what happened to Clark.

Mann said his department was notified of the body by city employees about 7 a.m. He said the body was on city property at the intersection of Almond Street and General Avenue, next to the Dos Palos Cemetery District. The location is at the city's edge close to the Merced County limit line.
